Immersion training is to fully immerse into the language you want to learn. The only language available for you is Thai. You have to speak it! No other options available. Everybody speaks Thai, all day long. The radio and TV play Thai music and shows. You (learn how to) cook Thai food. You wake up with Thai language, and go to bed with Thai language.
We begin when I pick you up from the airport! Don’t worry, I’ll speak as much – or little – Thai as you can handle. Everybody will be speaking Thai. Almost no-one in my village Ban Plakao speaks English. You have to speak Thai! Even if you want to run away, you have to ask directions to the bus-stop … in Thai!
At first, this is mentally pretty exhaustive. But your mind will get the hang of it quickly. That’s why you can learn much more in a couple of days than in a regular course of several months. It really works! However, read the caveat.
Immersion training is very intensive. Three days of training beats easily a full month in a regular language school. Don’t forget this is the whole day, from getting up to going to bed. A regular language school would teach you one or two hours daily at the most. The trick is that you are normally distracted too much. Yes, you learn something new. But before it can ‘sink in’ you have to talk with your friends, do your daily work or chores, watch a movie – you know the drill. Your mind immediately resets itself.
During immersion training that doesn’t happen. You brain does not have an opportunity to reset itself. You have to focus all day long, 24/7, even. That is very intensive, physically not demanding, but mentally it is. But the results are well worth the effort. Even a three day course (which really is 3 full days, from getting up to going to bed) beats a full month of regular training.
I have Wi-Fi in my house, and you’re free to use it. But realize that it will distract you from learning Thai. Part of the process is that your brain doesn’t get the chance to ‘reset’ itself to your native language. The more you think in your own language (by reading a book, watching TV, chatting with friends) the less effective the immersion process is. So you can use Wifi, of course. I do recommend you do not.
My courses are 3-7 days, starting from Bt. 21.000, all-inclusive.
